Residents and business owners in Cheney are beginning to experience a major upgrade in connectivity as high-speed, fiber-powered internet service officially comes online across the city.
Comcast announced this week that the first homes and businesses in Cheney have been connected to its multi-gig, symmetrical internet network, marking a significant expansion of broadband access in the growing Eastern Washington community. The project, developed in partnership with the City of Cheney, is expected to reach nearly 3,000 homes and businesses by the end of the year.
For a city that serves as home to Eastern Washington University and a mix of families, students, and small businesses, access to faster and more reliable internet is expected to play a key role in daily life; supporting remote work, online learning, streaming, and digital commerce.
“This expansion is about more than speed—it’s about strengthening connections that matter,” said Keith Turner, senior vice president of Comcast’s Pacific Northwest Region. “By delivering multi-gig speeds and affordable wireless options, we’re helping families, students, and local businesses thrive.”
Part of a Larger Investment in Spokane County
The Cheney project is the latest addition to Comcast’s recent broadband investments throughout Spokane County. Last month, the company completed network expansions in Chattaroy, Four Lakes, and Medical Lake, bringing high-speed internet access to more than 2,200 additional homes and businesses in areas that previously faced limited connectivity options.
With the Cheney buildout, thousands of county residents now have access to faster, more reliable broadband, an increasingly essential service as work, healthcare, and education continue to rely on digital access.
What Services Are Now Available
With the new network in place, Cheney residents can access Comcast’s full suite of Xfinity services, including high-speed internet, mobile phone service, streaming and TV platforms, voice services, and home security options.
Local businesses also stand to benefit through Comcast Business offerings, which include high-speed internet, secure networking solutions, cloud connectivity, and business mobile services designed for organizations of all sizes—from startups to established enterprises.

Bridging the Digital Divide
Beyond infrastructure, Comcast emphasized its continued focus on digital opportunity initiatives across Spokane County. Through its Internet Essentials program, qualifying households can access low-cost internet service and affordable computers. Over the past three years, the company has also invested more than $200,000 in local nonprofits aimed at building digital skills.
Additionally, 18 Lift Zones—safe community spaces offering free, high-capacity Wi-Fi—have been established throughout Spokane County to support students and families who may not have reliable internet at home.
Looking Ahead
As Cheney continues to grow, expanded broadband access is expected to support economic development, education, and quality of life across the community. City leaders and residents alike see improved connectivity as a key piece of infrastructure—on par with roads, utilities, and public services.
With construction continuing throughout the year, more Cheney neighborhoods will be connected in the months ahead, bringing the city fully online in a way that reflects how people live, work, and learn today.
