Comcast has completed a major broadband expansion in Spokane County, bringing high-speed, symmetrical internet service to more than 2,200 homes and businesses in Chattaroy, Four Lakes and Medical Lake. The project focuses on areas that have historically been underserved, significantly expanding reliable connectivity for families, students and employers who depend on fast internet for work, education and daily life
Local leaders say the investment will have an immediate impact. “I want to give a huge thank you to Comcast and all who were involved in bringing this vital service to more areas of Spokane County,” said Spokane County Commissioner Josh Kerns, noting that families, students and businesses will benefit from expanded broadband access.”
In Medical Lake, city officials described the expansion as transformative for the community. Mayor Terri Cooper called the addition of high-speed internet options “a real game changer for families and businesses in and around our city.”
Why It Matters in Spokane County
Reliable broadband access has become essential infrastructure as critical as roads and utilities, particularly in more rural or previously unserved areas of the county. With gig-speed internet and 99.9% reliability, the expanded network supports streaming, remote work, online learning, telehealth, gaming and small business operations.
For local businesses, enhanced connectivity opens the door to advanced networking tools, cloud-based systems and mobile workforce solutions through Comcast Business offerings. That capability can help small businesses compete, scale and remain resilient in a digital-first economy.
Keith Turner, senior vice president for Comcast’s Pacific Northwest Region, said the milestone reflects a collaborative effort to strengthen the county’s digital foundation. “By bringing Xfinity Internet with high-speed connectivity, we’re providing families, students and local businesses with the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital economy,” Turner said.
Access and Local Support
Residents in the newly connected areas have been notified that they are eligible for service and can sign up online or visit one of three local Xfinity stores in Spokane County. Store representatives can provide demonstrations, answer questions and help businesses connect with Comcast’s commercial services team.
A Broader Investment in Washington
The Spokane County expansion is part of a larger statewide investment. Comcast has invested approximately $1.2 billion in network technology and infrastructure across Washington over the past three years, bringing service availability to nearly three million homes and businesses.
Beyond network construction, the company also supports digital inclusion programs such as Internet Essentials, which provides low-cost broadband and affordable computers to eligible households.
For Spokane County, the newly completed expansion represents more than additional service lines, it strengthens economic opportunity, educational access and long-term community growth across Chattaroy, Four Lakes and Medical Lake.
